Many people who buy modular homes do so in order to use them as a holiday home.

Having somewhere to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life can be a great way to relax and unwind. Plus, a holiday house can be a good source of passive income from renting the holiday home when you’re not using it yourself.

We’ve put together this list of what we think are some of the 5 best holiday home locations in Victoria and Southern NSW.

Our criteria for judging these locations:

  • Affordability – there needs to be land available at a reasonable price
  • Natural beauty – the location needs to be beautiful
  • Things to do – there needs popular activities nearby
  • Rental value – we’ve researched how much you stand to gain by renting out a 3-bedroom home in these locations

Bateman’s Bay

Batemans-BayRent (3-bedroom): $300/week

Population: 12,000

  • Surf beaches
  • Snorkelling
  • Bike riding
  • Bushwalking
  • Fishing

Bateman’s Bay is located on the south coast of NSW, around 3 hours’ drive from Sydney. It is the closest seaside town to Canberra, making it a popular holiday destination among residents of the nation’s capital.

Bateman’s Bay was recently mentioned in this Domain article as one of the top five picks for value when it comes to NSW holiday home locations.

Perfect if you like:

  • Fishing
  • Quiet beaches
  • Water sports (e.g. kitesurfing, windsurfing)
  • Hiking and cycling

Located just an hour and a half south east of Melbourne, Inverloch is a hidden gem when it comes to great places to build a holiday home in Victoria.

While situated on the ocean, Inverloch enjoys the benefits of being at the mouth of a natural estuary in the form of Anderson Inlet. This provides visitors with access to a series of protected beaches. In 2006 the RACV opened an impressive eco-village holiday resort.

Marysville is the only location on this list not situated on a body of water. But the stunning natural attractions nearby more than make up for this lack of water access.

Marysville is located 90 minutes’ drive from Melbourne in the picturesque Yarra Valley. The town of Marysville itself has a population of just 300 people, making it an ideal holiday home location for those wanting peace and solitude.

It’s also only 30kms from Healesville Sanctuary – a popular family destination. Furthermore, Marysville is close to Lake Mountain (only 20 minutes away) which is great for cross-country skiing during winter.

Metung

Nestled away in in the lake system of East Gippsland, Victoria, Metung is less known than the larger nearby towns of Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale.

But Metung has some great things going for it that make it a worthy inclusion on this list. Just over three hours’ drive from Melbourne, Metung is a great launching point for enjoying the Gippsland region’s excellent food and wines as well as fishing and water sports on the beautiful Gippsland Lakes.

Ocean Grove
